Before the
moon disperses,
And daylight
fills the skies,
A cheery,
chirpy melody
Pervades
the countryside.
Beginning in
the rookery,
It spreads
throughout the trees,
Awakening the
butterflies,
The squirrels
and the bees.
It trickles
t’ward the garden,
Then seeps
into the sheds,
Beguiling vagrant
mice and rats
From deep
within their beds.
It soothes
the souls and spirits
Of the
farmers cutting hay,
The midwife
and the milkman,
As they set
about their day.
It fills
the bosk with beauty,
Serenity and
calm –
The joyful,
tuneful harmony
That’s
nature’s blithe alarm.
