The eyes respond, if young or old
To colours, dull or sharp or bold
Soft greens of heather, calming fears
Brash red of buses; stinging tears
A fervid torrent down the street
A dress so bold you’d want to meet
Its nicely structured owner for a glass
Of wine, hors d’oevres, perhaps a kiss
That purpling orange half a dress
She bravely wore no man could miss
But think, is colour all? Does not a shape
As strong a part important take?
Straight lines repel, sharp edges hurt
Triangles bleed, squares blunder, oblongs flatten
The two together create a pattern
Colours and shapes address our eyes
Some we know well, some are surprise
Each a midwife to thought or new idea
What does it mean, can I see clear
The feeling of the artist’s touch
A poet’s words can mean so much
So let us think of what we see
Yes, you, and you and you – and even – me

Such a thoughtful interesting poem and perceptions of colour and shape that I share now that Geoffrey has put them into words.
I could visualise that beautifully. Marie
