First Autumn Sun by Delphine Woods

Childhood dreams of rising dragon steam,

Puffing and twisting, caressing the pine trees.

Or the amber leaves crunching under feet,

Strewn on soggy paths, their carcasses grow deep.

Crystal webs on diamond-jewelled grass,

Saffron apples slumping, too heavy, at last!

Cinnamon spiced liquid breathing smoke from my glass;

The cauldron bubbling. My heart racing fast.

Pumpkins, log fires, woolly jumpers, biscuit crumbs,

Flocking and scurrying, the race for Christmas is on.

All this begins as the rays rise young,

Oh, how I love the first Autumn sun.

The Pianist by Delphine Woods

Delphine's new novel, WOMAN ON WARD 13 is coming out 17th July. It's a dark, time-slip mystery, featuring madhouses and asylums, and women who shouldn't be in them! Order a copy on https://bookgoodies.com/a/B088RJDHTK
For a taste of her writing from a while back, read on ….

The icy draft carries the pensive notes of Tchaikovsky through the hollow corridors. Music is the only living thing in this crumbling castle that sits atop a towering mountain. As an eagle dives past one of the one hundred and ninety broken windows, it screeches its empathy.

The beast plays with his crippled fingers. His eyes stare unseeing at the keys bowing their submission.  ‘None but the lonely heart’ is now a mechanical recitation, played for years for imaginary ears.  Even the Beast is deaf to its eternal sorrow.  Yet this tune is his only sustenance.

As the keys drip immortality into his silent pulse he wonders how long this will continue.  His passion has entombed him. A man of beauty decayed into a relic by a wounded woman, for he loved the keys, the symphonies, the harmonies, more than he loved her flatteries.
