SILVER Y by Val Pedrick ... for Melissa

autographa gamma*

horned shadowy delta

sporting Greek ‘y’ silver logo

pubescent abdomen exuding pheromones

intruded her illumined, teenage bedroom at dusk!

Why the odyssey, Alpha to Omega, Athens to Aberdeen?

Do irresistible rays promise northern-night nuptials

nocturnal perfumes, bitter-sweet nectar, love, sex and decay?

Silver-y-thonged, autographed midriff, pierced argent by Argos

teen yelled child-outrage at fluttering graffiti’d invader of personal space!

Gran’ma summoned to recue the maid, sighed, “Why dear, it’s only a moth!”

* The silver Y is a migratory moth of the family Noctuidae which is named for the silvery Y-shaped mark on each of its forewings.
