IN MEMORIAM
that bright January day
reflected in a hushed room
time stilled, suspended
‘our linnet’ will serenade us
no more
on the walk home, solitary footsteps
bruised frosted footpaths beside
darkling Victoria Park, mourning
beneath bleak branched
canopies
suddenly, from spectral heights
thrilled a throstle’s song
vibrating twilight – a soul
flung forth in celebration
of a life well-lived
