Bourton-on-the-Water by Adam Rutter

credit: BBC Gloucestershire

Clear waters flow though Bourton

The Cotswold town site between a shallow river

Sparkles and dances in the sunlight,

Currents ripple and pass-through low arch bridges

Walked over by numerous feet

Trekking from all the world’s corners

To bathe in this cool’ refreshing spring

Children paddle

Splashing each other

Laughing and chuckling in the sunshine,

A white horse stands between pebbles and the towpath

Drinking from the river

Quenching its thirst

In scorching heat

The water barely reaches above its hooves

Yellow limestone buildings line the riverbank

Beckoning visitors to step inside souvenir shops

This is a lovely poem, Adam, full of imaginative language and imagery. I remember you reading it aloud at our last session, but I can appreciate it better now that it's in print. Nice to have you back on the blogspot! I shall be reading it a few times.

Your poem is very descriptive Sarah, I can imagine the 'blaze of blaring blue'. I also like. the 'beak stretched and pointed' and the bird's 'composed and silent posture'. I have seen a kookaburra, a close relation, in a similar profile
