Christmas in Three Time by John Bowler

illustration: John Bowler

“I saw three ships go sailing by”,

Set me thinking – why?

Joseph and Mary, the Shepherds and Magi, the stable their destination.

Three different journeys all made in great expectation.

The shepherds awakened by the angels from their sleep,

Came tumbling down the hillside leaving their sheep.

There may have been three, possibly more

Excitedly arriving at the stable door.

Later, wise men journeyed following the star,

Came searching for the Messiah from lands afar,

To see Jesus in Mary’s arms in the dim light,

Presenting gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh on that starry night.

But the three most wonderful of all

Were Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus, born in that stall.

I wondered about the 3 ships too. Good to bring Christmas back to what it really is about (to me, anyway). 💖
