Reflections by Val Pedrick

Aberdeen 2003

Pinnacles piece granite skies,

Pirouette, reflected in the glass town tower.

Spectral shapes glimmer

Through dusty gothic casement –

Relics of faded passions.

Gilded refractions cascade

In mirrored fragments.

Workers and shoppers hurry blindly past

A neglected elegant edifice.

Carious extraction drawn

From Rubislaw’s jaw,

A dinosaur, fossilised,

Belly full of

Cariogenic artefacts;

Grubby granite face of

Former seat of learning

Indifferently mirrored by

‘Swinging sixties Bauhaus’.

Enjoyed reading this! Great use of words and thought provoking too.
