My boots squelch in the mud in
the woods
Twigs and branches snap
beneath
I look at the trees to see the
buds
I clear the forest to step
onto a heath
Heather is bright purple in
sunny weather
Tors stick out of the ground
like molar teeth
Hiding under the heather lies
a grouse feather
I'm hiking on this moorland
Stretching out like desert sand

I like how we see the bigger landscape, but also the detail like the feather. Evokes the atmosphere of the place, makes me want to walk there too. Great image of the molar teeth 😊
Yes, I thought that "Tors stick out of the ground like molar teeth" was really imaginative -- great simile! Now I need to find out what a "tor" is...
An onomatopoeic piece, Adam. Nice to see it in print.

Well, I looked up the word "tor", and I have learnt that it means a hill or a rock. I assume in this instance it means "rock". Thanks, Adam -- you have taught me a new word! That's one of the things I enjoy about being a member of this group.

I identify with your description of the moorland Adam - I have walked there so many times. I like the detail of the feather, probably just peeping out from beneath the heather.
