Elk by Jennie Hart

We once went to Sweden to see

The elks in the wood roaming free

I offered the mum

A banana or bun

For her daughter to eat for her tea.

But the mum wasn't happy with this.

She did not even give me a kiss

She reared up on hind legs

Knocking me off my pegs

Next time I will give elks a miss!

I m hoping this is all true-except the bit about you being knocked down! I really hope you weren't....The idea in the poem of seeing elk in Sweden is lovely....but reminds all to beware of anything vaguely bovine with young!!

Well, I don't know what happened to my first comment!

An amusing tale, Jennie. Did all that actually happen?

Yeah, you have to be careful around young animals in the wild, as their mothers can get very protective and sometimes attack you -- a woman in this country was once killed by a cow because of that.

Another fine addition to our limerick litany!

I was very naïve and yes it did happen. I lost the saphire out of my engagement ring in the fall and when the insurance company learned I had been attacked by an elk, they paid up by return of post. No one could make that up they thought

Yes, fair point!

How long ago did it happen? It's a nice little tale!
