Skies - a tanka by Irena Szirtes

Larks, raised on song, melt

Into summer sky and stone-

drop into silence.

Winter jackdaws hunker on

trees black-laced against steel skies.

Hello Irena!

The group's first tanka! Some nice imagery here; it's interesting how you've placed a summer image and a winter one together. I like "Winter jackdaws hunker on trees".

I must check out what a Tanka is, they are new to me. It's beautiful Irena - I love '......trees black-laced against steel skies'

Thankyou Jennie. Again, these words came to me when I walked a lane and bridle path during our February in Chelmarsh. I didn't know about Tankas either- it was a task set by our group poetry enthusiast at the extra meeting in February 😊
