Springtime by Jennie Hart

Sunbeams chase traces of fading night

Into the story of yesterday.

The air is still and morning light

Filters through fingers of ferns,

Unfurling in their special way

Fine feathered branches of oak and birch

Make shapes against the sultry sky

Honeybees hover and seek for nectar,

Brush against stamens pollen-ladened,

Fragile wings quivering as they fly

Dock and dandelion, bold and strong

Resist the gardener’s fork that digs down deep.

Hellebores, coax hungry bees along

To feast amongst their purple sepals,

And rouse these nectar seekers from their sleep

Some lovely imagery here, Jennie -- now all I have to do is look up "hellebores" and "sepals". These pieces aren't half extending my vocab...

Love your awareness of plants, Jennie. It's making us all more appreciative of them too 🙂
