Gloucester Cathedral by Adam Rutter

credit: Adam Rutter

I walk inside, looking up, a high ceiling, wide pillars line the aisle

An arch window straight ahead, biblical characters splashed all over the glass

The arch door leads to a long corridor

I step out onto the green courtyard, the water fountain jets up into the air

The bell tower rises above me, almost touches the sky. Cotton wool clouds slide across

Students sit on the bench, chatting. Diagonal pathways converge with the fountain, I stand up, walking to the centre.

Turn around, I photograph the quadrangle.

Nicely lost in the experience of seeing the cathedral 😊

Yes, this piece contains some great descriptive work, Adam; it really cements the images in the reader's mind and expresses a lot in a minimal way. Solid poetry!

Thank you Alex. Yes, the whole idea of using description in my poems is place the reader in my shoes in order to provide the same experience as me.

The bell tower really does dominate the scene.

It's a very effective technique, Adam. An interesting, evocative piece.
