Nightlight by Irena Szirtes

Night awakens the light in me.

Time stands content.

The still falls.

The days doings float up

Like coral spawn, drift off into

Moon-hauled, re-hauled dark.

Silence smiles:

Its fingers explore my soul.

Night-atoms seep through my light,

Dissolve thought,

Blow over my skin.

Howgills loom from shadow and fade,

Till I sleep cocooned in the night

That awakens the light in me.

I don’t think of you as only coming to life in the dark, if that’s how you mean it; you are always very much alive and in the moment. Even so, only you know how you feel. Beautifully expressed.
