June 2024 Meeting

Present: Irena (Chair) Adam, Jennie, Liz, John A-S, Andy. We were also pleased to welcome new members: Heather, Emma, Alex, Debbie, Chloe, Lily, Ruth and Tracy.

Apologies were received from Kath, Suzy, Sam, Sue A, Marie, Ann, Fiona, Martin and Esme.

We discussed ways of beating writers’ block, as well as the possibility of using part of our meetings to read extracts from our longer works for constructive criticism.

Next meeting Tuesday 23rd July 2024 from 7pm

Theme for July is writing about water in any shape or form.

Use any kind of writing you like. If pieces go beyond 1000 words, readings may need to be partial readings so that everyone has opportunity to read. Think of where you might pause your reading aloud - eg where would your 'cliffhanger' be in a piece of fiction or what would be a stand-alone passage from a piece of non-fiction. The whole piece can be posted on the blog for everyone to read or hard copies can be circulated to members to finish reading later. Poems can usually be read in their entirety.

Thank you Irena, your ideas for overcoming writer’s block are extremely useful. I need to refer to them at the moment!

So glad though found it helpful Jennie. I have written up the contributions by others, ready for printing 🙂
