Typewriter by Ann Reader

 Typewriter! Writer type!

Surely now the time is ripe

To challenge all the right wing hype

Use those keys use that ink

Hopefully make people think

So come typewriter type.

Typewriter! Writer type.

Use those words and take a swipe

At every racist stereotype

It’s not the colour of a skin

That matters, but what is within

So come typewriter write

Typewriter! Writer type !

There’s so much narrow minded tripe

Show your metal show your stripe

Make it clear what’s on my mind

How everyone should just be kind

Oh come typewriter type

I love the rhythm of this and the wise advice the typewriter should be typing. Personally, I have never typed in my life and think I have missed out!

Yes indeed, may the typewriter type some sense! Heartfelt 💓

There's nothing quite like hammering out a heartfelt pamphlet on an old typewriter - with all the trouble of cutting stencils, and correcting mistakes with sticky pink stuff. Not to mention making a copy and then discovering that you've put the carbon paper in upside down! Ann - your poem brought it all back!
