Sir Benfro Haiku* by Elizabeth Obadina

Dawn - ready for Wales
Through the fog a blackbird sings
Dusk - rain-drenched welcome

Slate-grey granite cliffs
Wind-blown gorse. Trees bent double
Pembrokeshire unchanged

Sirens sounds. Lifeboat launched.
Blue skies, blue seas, gulls wheeling,
No call-outs today.

Graptolites on slate
Three hundred million years
Waiting for daylight

Sunset in Porthgain
Fifty years spent visiting
With friends, not much’s changed

* This year I resolved to at least write a haiku everyday, even if I don’t manage to write anything else! I spent a couple of days this March catching some rare rays of sunshine in Pembrokeshire - known as Sir Benfro in Welsh.
